In this opinion piece recently published in the Traverse City Record-Eagle, a realtor gives her analysis of the problems short-term rentals of less than 30 days are creating in Traverse City and most everywhere else here in northern Michigan. For example: increased traffic and sewage issues; avoidance of taxes, leading to decreased money available for our local governments for services and infrastructure; and lack of control over short-term guests who may cause noise and other problems to the owners of neighboring homes.
Thie article is well worth the read. At a minimum, it gives us all some food for thought. What do we want our communities to become?
